Welcome to Cary Park Juniors
Latest news from our junior section:-
First winner of the new Bob Farqhuar Trophy was 12 year old Dan Seaward. And the first to congratulate him was his opponent and best friend Dominic Fowlds who he beat 6-3 in the one-set final.
Dan said: ‘It’s a great honour to be the first winner of this trophy. And although I never actually met Bob, his name will live on for me on the first tennis trophy I have ever won’
For Dominic, too, it was his first tennis trophy, though he hopes to compete for it again next year.
Linda said: ‘As well as the perpetual shield, it was important to me that the boys got a trophy each to keep.’
The tournament was arranged by Cary Park’s head coach Rob Short, who was himself coached by Bob Farquhar when Rob was 13 and Bob had just started at the Palace at the age of 18.
Rob said: ‘Bob was a great player and a great guy. We all miss him. It is nice that the strand continues through Cary Park in this way and that Bob’s name will live on in Torquay for another generation.
